30 Days of Music - Day 1 (Your Favourite Song)

Inspired by Hugh Garry (@huey) I'm going to have a bash at this over the next month. It's a meme that asks you to post a song on a different theme each day. Here's Hugh's post about it,

and here's the list:

day 02 - your least favorite song
day 03 - a song that makes you happy
day 04 - a song that makes you sad
day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
day 06 - a song that reminds of you of somewhere
day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
day 09 - a song that you can dance to
day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
day 11 - a song from your favorite band
day 12 - a song from a band you hate
day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
day 15 - a song that describes you
day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
day 19 - a song from your favorite album
day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry

day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
day 29 - a song from your childhood
day 30 - your favorite song at this time last year

So, for day 1, My Favourite Song... That's a tough one. [this is take two, having already scrapped a description of a piece that I think I'll use in a later category...]

Right, got it - I love everything about this song - the lyrics, the vocal delivery, the groove... even the production is perfect... KD Lang's phrasing is outstanding... love it love it love it - enjoy.

This is genius
sorry, the idiots at Warner have overnight disabled embed playing on this video... because the 0.01p they'll make in ad revenue is more important to them than me telling you about my favourite song, you hearing it and maybe wanting to buy it... Dickheads
Good choice, like the meme, love the hilarious irony of the dickheads. ;)
This is a fine and interesting meme - but daunting when trying to choose from the wealth of music I have heard in my life.

But how to limit the rules to make it more manageable? How about choosing one artist; one with a large catalog, a variety of musical approaches and great emotional impact?

For me that would be John Martyn. I think I could find a track of his to fulfill each of the 30 points in the list. I may never get the list written, but it's a great excuse to dust off his tunes and listen through them all again.

Andy

Thanks Ben - are you going to do it? Would love to hear your answers...

Andy - the trick is not to see any of it as definitive... I don't feel any need for my choices to be anything other than whichever one of the range of songs that means that criteria that happens to come to mind at the time. Could do it again the day after and pick a whole other set of songs... :)

But yes, the one artist version would be fascinating. I could do that with Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Jonatha Brooke, Billy Bragg, Kings X, Tom Waits... probably even my own back catalogue :)

Hey, I love your idea :) Im definitely going to do it :)
